The meteo broadcast on television invariably shows a crescent, stretching from the border with Spain to Nimes and beyond, with a totally different weather forecast than the rest of France. The area within the crescent has a Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers, mild winters and moderate springs and autumns.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region is the hottest in mainland France. The coastline sheltered by mountains, tends to be sunnier and warmer than the inland regions. The mountains of course tend to be cooler.
