LOCAL SIGHTSEEING.

Capitelles or Carabelles.

These stone structures were built  to provide temporary shelter for both farmers and their tools, they were also used for quaratine during the plague. These structures were built without any framework and can be seen in  abundance around the hills of Faugeres.

Trois tours of Faugeres.

Of special note are the "Trois tours" (3 towers) located on the summit above Faugeres. These three ancient Roman watch towers were converted into windmills during the 16th century. Recently they were completely restored and have become the symbol of the Faugeres wine.

Cirque de Moureze.

At the village of Moureze you will find a site with strange standing rocks, worn by the rain of millions of years. The site has been occupied since prehistoric times and continues to be a source of fascination. Similar in origin to the Dolomites in Italy the rock formations are fascinating and awe inspiring.

Lac du Salagou, about 25 Kms. from Faugeres is a popular destination for many people. The site of an old volcano, around 750 hectares, was filled with 130 million litres of water to provide a super leisure attraction.
